Municipality exempts companions of People of Determination from entry fee for Dubai parks

Dubai Municipality will exempt companions of People of Determination from the entry fee for the public parks in Dubai. The move is part of the keenness of the Municipality to meet the government's directives to support People of Determination and to provide them with the necessities of a dignified life.

It is also part of the initiative, “My Community Is a Place for All,” launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, aimed at turning the Emirate of Dubai a place friendly to People of Determination by 2020. 

Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality issued an administrative decision exempting two people accompanying the People of Determination of the fees imposed on the entry of some of the facilities of the Municipality, such as the public parks in the Emirate, Children’s City and Dubai Safari Park.

“Since its establishment in 1957, Dubai Municipality has committed itself to providing the highest levels of care and support to People of Determination, and has prioritized the provision of a variety of quality services to this category. We have also taken care to modernize, develop and facilitate the services within our facilities, service centers and projects in accordance with international standards and experiences,” he said.

Ahmed AbdulKarim, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Public Support Sector and Chairman of the People of Determination Team said that the Municipality has been a pioneer in launching community initiatives and linking them to the Strategic Plan of the Municipality, which is responsible for upgrading the principles and practices of corporate social responsibility in order to develop the Municipality to become more innovative, productive and competitive.

“The Municipality also studies the views of the community members towards its community services and sets plans based on these views and needs and always evaluates these initiatives and its approaches to different segments of the community to benefit from them,” he said.

AbdulKarim noted that these initiatives do not often relate to the key tasks and services provided by the Municipality, but it varies in different community-based services.

He added that the Municipality has decided to accomplish its mission and consolidate its achievements to support the category of the People of Determination by integrating them with all groups of the society, equalizing them, developing their abilities and potentials, enhancing community commitment towards them and intensifying efforts to promote the services provided to them through an initiative to support the People of Determination among the employees and customers of the Municipality.

“Dubai Municipality has made it a place friendly for People of Determination and aims to make people of this category happier. It also highlights their talents, achievements, creativity and efficiency and endeavours to promote and nurture their self-confidence, self-development, and the ability to work and innovate among themselves, and to familiarize them with their rights and duties in the Municipality. It also enable them to participate in official and voluntary exhibitions, forums, events and activities, sharing their best practices and passing on the successful experiences of the Municipality, as well as seeking to provide them with a suitable work environment,” said AbdulKarim.

He pointed out that Dubai Municipality has a number of community initiatives for this category, which gave it great attention, even in the requirements and specifications of buildings approved for all buildings in Dubai and other facilities such as parks, markets and service buildings of the Municipality.

Muna Khalifa Bin Hammad, an expert on corporate excellence and a member of the Dubai Municipality team for the People of Determination, said that Dubai Municipality has provided many services and facilities for them, which include a Braille guide for the visually impaired People of Determination in parks and service centers, stories in Braille in the Children’s City, and now exemption from entrance fees for public parks, Children’s City and Dolphinarium, in addition to the service of specialized water chairs for swimming, a free service provided to the People of Determination among the visitors of the Mamzar Beach Park and they can use the Water Chair for rowing alone or with a companion.

“In the public parks, People of Determination are provided specialized children's toys, fitness equipment and wheelchairs. Those with hearing disabilities can request this service from the park employees for free, and can avail the service via e-Chat also through Dubai Municipality website,” said Bin Hammad.
