HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) witnessed the launch of the second batch of the Master’s programme in Future Energy Systems & Technology Programme, which DEWA implements in collaboration with the University of California – Berkeley. This was attended by Professor Tarek Zohdi, the programme’s director, Professor Gabriel Gomes from the university, and several DEWA officials.

The second batch of DEWA employees entering the Master’s programme has 60 students as compared to the first batch, which had 35. In his online speech to the new batch, Al Tayer said that DEWA works to achieve the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai a global futuristic city, raise the quality of life, and ensure happiness for its citizens, residents, and visitors.

When we designed the programme with UC Berkeley, we intended to develop a unique and futuristic Master’s programme to educate UAE nationals. Today, you comprise the second batch of 60 students. I am proud of you all and encourage you to abide by the highest scientific and professional standards, moral values and positivity,” said Al Tayer.

“We are living in interesting times, and yet look at our ability to react and adapt to change. We are still able to continue to define and shape our future. You are demonstrating our success today with your promise to succeed tomorrow. We are happy that the University of California, Berkeley is our partner in this programme. The best and brightest in-class faculty from UC Berkeley will teach you about cutting edge subjects, such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Renewable Generation Systems, and Cybersecurity. You are part of a select group who have been shortlisted for this programme. We trust that you will benefit from this programme as we need technically competent and future leaders who can drive current and future initiatives for DEWA and Dubai. I know I can count on you to be target-oriented,  deliver good work on time, be able to think ahead about your work, and above all, be able to transform any challenges you face into opportunities,” added Al Tayer.

DEWA launched the Master’s programme in Future Energy Systems & Technology in cooperation with the University of California - Berkeley in 2019. This supports the national strategy to empower young Emiratis and prepare them to assume leadership positions in various areas.
