Every light provides one meal to someone in need amid Covid-19 pandemic
West Zone Group donates 50,000 meals and shines 50,000 lights on Burj Khalifa
The West Zone Group donated 50,000 meals to coronavirus-affected communities in UAE, illuminating 50,000 lights on World’s Tallest Donation Box at Burj Khalifa.
The Dh500,000 donation contributes to illuminating Burj Khalifa’s 1.2 million lights to provide 1.2 million meals to individuals and families affected by the coronavirus (covid-19) outbreak.
Launched on Saturday as part of the ’10 million meals’ campaign, the World’s Tallest Donation Box enables companies, entities and the public to purchase lights of Burj Khalifa, for as little as Dh10 each. For every light purchased for Dh10 through the website www.tallestdonationbox.com, one meal is provided to someone in need, with the ultimate goal to illuminate the 1.2 million lights on the façade of the world’s tallest building in solidarity with communities hard hit by the pandemic.
Naresh Bhawnani, Chairman of the West Zone Group, said, “Growing philanthropy in parallel with economic development makes the UAE a role model for the rest of the world to follow. This principle forms an integral part of the corporate culture in the UAE.”
He added, “Through our contribution to the ’10 million meals’ through the World’s Tallest Donation Box, we aim to light up Burj Khalifa from the heart of Dubai in solidarity with everyone affected by the ongoing crisis across the world and perform acts of kindness in the holy month of Ramadan.”
Under the supervision of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) and the Social Solidarity Fund Against Covid-19, meals and food parcels were delivered in a logistical distribution network developed in collaboration with partnering entities to reach beneficiaries across the country.
