In line with its strategic direction to enhance quality of life and promote the values of social solidarity and community responsibility, The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai announced the achievement of a significant community impact through the “Neighbourhood Mosques” initiative. Community contributions supported development projects exceeding AED 5.7 million during the first quarter of 2026. This included the installation of new carpets in more than 30 mosques at a cost exceeding AED 2 million, in addition to providing sponsorships and maintenance for nearly 35 mosques, with an annual value exceeding AED 3.7 million. This reflects the growing scope of community partnership and the public’s trust in the Department’s initiatives aimed at supporting and sustaining mosques.
The initiative also covered approximately 15,500 square metres of high-quality carpeting, contributing to a comfortable and safe spiritual environment for worshippers. It further enhances mosque readiness in line with sustainable operational standards, improves resource efficiency, and elevates the quality of services provided to mosque visitors. This aligns with Dubai’s urban and population growth, while reinforcing the role of mosques as community hubs that promote values, social cohesion, and quality of life within an integrated development framework that reflects the Department’s vision of building a more connected and sustainable society.
His Excellency Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, affirmed that the continued growth of the initiative and strong community response reflect a high level of awareness and responsibility among community members, as well as their commitment to contributing to the care and development of mosques. He noted that every contribution represents an extension of the deeply rooted culture of giving within the UAE, and a genuine desire to support mosques and strengthen their role in promoting values and fostering community reassurance.
He added that the sustained engagement with the “Neighbourhood Mosques” initiative reflects a conscious humanitarian partnership, where giving is transformed into a lasting impact that benefits generations of worshippers. It also strengthens the role of mosques as unifying centres that embody social cohesion and the spirit of solidarity, highlighting that supporting mosques is a practical expression of belonging and community responsibility, contributing to social stability and improved quality of life.
For his part, Mohammed Jassim Al Mansoori, Director of the Customer Service Department and supervisor of the “Neighbourhood Mosques” initiative, stated that the achieved results reflect the level of trust the community places in the Department’s initiatives, as well as their commitment to contributing to sustainable projects with long-term impact. He emphasized that the initiative translates the concept of community partnership into practical actions that enhance the mosque environment and improve operational efficiency, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality services that meet community expectations and serve mosque visitors effectively.
